Hanging around industrial sites with motorbikes and men with beards; just your usual Saturday then.
Menswear is a challenge for any jewellery brand, and as stylish as our stuff is, it doesn’t make it easier for men to buy. This isn’t because they don’t want to buy it – in fact the mens jewellery sector has seen an increase in sales of 600% particularly for rings and bracelets (to April 2013 – FT article #legit). Instead there is still somewhat of a stigma attached to ‘men who wear jewellery’. Since working for BMM I’ve become much more open minded about mens fashion and have started to form my own opinions regarding what I do and do not like – something I hadn’t given much thought to in the past.
So this weekend saw the photoshoot for our soon to be launched menswear collection. Bloody Mary lends itself comfortably to designing menswear. From our heavy metal roots, menswear has always just been natural progression. So we teamed up with leading fashion brands Carhaart, Edwin and Abandon Ship Apparel for the shoot that took place on an industrial site in a secret Cornish location (read: I have no fucking idea where we were). If you were following the instagram account you would already have been privy to some behind the scenes (BTS) shots. Full Bloody Mary Mens Club Lookbook shot by the brilliant Catherine Laura coming soon!

Photographer (&film): Catherine Laura

Lucy had this to say on the menswear collection:
“BMM is two years old now. We’ve “dabbled” in menswear before- but I have never felt confident enough to say I that I know what men like to wear (my fella isn’t a huge fan of jewellery- although he does now wear a gold BMM Mens Stack almost every day!) Over the past 6 months I’ve spent a lot of time with some good friends, a lot of whom are in mens fashion, to some degree, and it left me in no doubt that now is the time to bring forth Bloody Mary Mens Club! We’ve collaborated with our good pals Abandon Ship (@abandonshipapparel) on an awesome Moustache Comb necklace, as well as a collaborative mini range with Carlos Costa (@roque_80) which we think you’re going to LOVE, and a few signature pieces just from us. I think this is the start of a long line of solid, striking and wearable mens pieces from us. So grab your fellas, show them the video below, and lets get BMMC started! #bloodymarymensclub “
There is a tendency for menswear which appeals to the mainstream to tone down its collections by using slightly more subtle colours and materials (e.g. leather). Well we haven’t done that. Some of the collection are unashamedly heavy and domineering. Take the collab piece, the moustache comb, with Abandon Ship Apparel for example.
The boys had fun riding bikes around, walking slowly towards the camera and looking pensive for a day. Here is a brief video that should set the scene for the collection.
So that’s our take on mens jewellery. We’ll soon set up a YouTube channel, where we’ll start posting more BTS footage, interviews with Lucy and the BMM Team and new product developments.
Follow us on Instagram and Twitter @bloodymarymetal or use #teambmm to show us your BMM – or even better – #bloodymarymensclub for MEN WEARING BMM
I hope you enjoy that sneaky look behind the scenes – signing off till next time.
